The regional pump station is expected to be located in the far northeast corner of the Town's property. This location provides significant separation from the lakeside bluff, and no adverse environmental impacts are anticipated.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Pump Station
Will the regional pump station increase erosion of the bluff?
There have been no formal discussions regarding the location of a potential Fire and EMS station in the Camlachie area. When the Town acquires land, it generally purchases sufficient property to provide flexibility for future expansion and other strategic initiatives.
With respect to Queen Street, as part of the regional pumping station project, the road will be fully reconstructed in a manner similar to the section of Queen Street located to the west. The reconstruction will include a multi-use trail alongside the roadway to support active transportation and improve pedestrian safety.
Are pump stations noisy, odorous, and appropriate for residential areas?
The Town has several pump stations located adjacent to residential neighborhoods. Examples can be viewed at the following locations:
The proposed pump station is expected to be approximately 200 metres from the nearest home in Blue Coast Heights and approximately 100 metres from the nearest home on Queen Street. Pump stations are constructed primarily below ground and generally generate minimal noise or odor.
The Town has experienced odor issues at the west end of Queen Street. When the sewer system was installed in the 1990s, insufficient pipe slope resulted in sewage moving too slowly to the existing pumping station, allowing sewer gases to form and create odors. During the approval of the Wastewater Servicing Master Plan, Council directed staff to ensure the new pump station is enclosed within a residential-style building that complements the surrounding neighborhood and incorporate measures to prevent any potential odor issues.
Did the Municipality consult with the public regarding the regional pumping station?
Yes. The Wastewater Servicing Master Plan was completed and endorsed in 2021. As part of the process, a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment was undertaken, which includes extensive public consultation requirements.
Information regarding the consultation process, notices, and the final master plan report can be found on the Town's Utilities, Sewer and Water webpage under Wastewater Servicing Master Plan 2021.
