Grants and Special Assistance

To provide senior residents with special assistance, the Town of Plympton-Wyoming offers a Senior Low Income Property Tax Grant program. Visit our Taxes page for more information on this program.

The Foundation was created in the fall of 2000, incorporated to manage funds generated by the sale of Wyoming Hydro-Electric Commission to Hydro-One Inc., and to use the revenue generated by such funds for the benefit of the residents of the former Village of Wyoming. Following the sale of the Village Hydro utility, a portion of the funds was used to build a new Wyoming Fire Hall on Main Street in Wyoming, and the balance invested with the incorporation of the Wyoming Community Foundation.

Since its inception in late 2000, the Foundation has donated a total of nearly $545,000 to the community in response to requests submitted for various projects from year to year.

The Foundation meets on an as needed basis (2 to 3 times a year) and holds an annual Public Meeting in December each year. The Board is composed of five members, all volunteers, each of whom serve three year terms.

As of April 1,2023, the Town will be offering a Sump Pump Disconnect and Backwater Valve Installation Grant Program to residents in high risk areas within the Township. The program will allow residents to apply for a grant of up to $3,000.00 to help cover the costs of having a backwater valve installed and/or having your sump pump disconnected from the sanitary sewer.

Removing sump pumps from the sanitary sewer will reduce the likelihood of the sewer becoming overwhelmed during a rainfall event. The installation of a backwater valve will reduce the risk of sewage entering into a dwelling if a sanitary sewer becomes overwhelmed.

An application package will be made available at the Municipal office on April 1, 2023, for anyone who wishes to apply for the program. You can also download the package here. The Town will review and approve each application on a case-by-case basis, providing all requirements of the application are met, with preference being given to houses located in high risk areas of the municipality that have a history of wastewater backups.

The Community Improvement Plan (CIP) promotes and fosters continued growth and development in downtown Wyoming and aims to enhance the built heritage and streetscape aesthetics of the core area. This is achieved through capital grants to assist property owners and tenants with projects that upgrade and enhance existing commercial buildings in the downtown core.
