THAMES, NIAGARA AND MAIN ST RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The Town of Plympton-Wyoming has closed tenders for the Thames, Niagara and Main St Reconstruction project. Schouten Excavating Inc. has been awarded the contract. Please find below some important information about the project:

1. Public Meeting: The Town will be hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, April 22nd at 5:30pm at the Municipal Office. Residents are invited to attend and will receive important details about the project and have the opportunity to ask questions.

2.  Contact Information: Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding the construction or any concerns you may have. Our contact numbers are listed below.

3.  Start Date: Preliminary work is planned to begin April 27, 2026. Work will include the installation of new storm sewers, storm services, new watermain, water services, new sidewalk, new concrete curb and a new asphalt roadway. If you know the location of your existing storm service, please bring it to our attention.

4.    Duration: The entire project is expected to last 25 weeks, weather permitted.

5.  Traffic Control: Thames St from Toronto St to Ketter Way, Niagara St from Toronto St to the east end and Main St from Toronto to 491 Main St will be closed to traffic during the construction. Overnight access to your home will be made available to residents – please park on your private property. Please note there may be instances where there will be no access to your driveway overnight (due to open trenches). In these cases, you will be instructed as to where you can park. The Contractor will try to limit these instances. While driving in the construction zone, please limit your speed to 10km/hr to ensure the safety of the workers and prevent damage to your vehicle. Please avoid parking on the roadway during construction hours.

  1. Watermains: Please note that in order to facilitate the new watermain construction, the Contractor will be installing a temporary watermain over land. The temporary watermain may be connected in one of two ways:

a.    To your outdoor hose bib with a Y connection, so that the hose bib can continue to be used for gardening purposes.

b.    To your existing service in the front yard.

With both connections methods there will be an excavated area around the existing water shut-off in the front yard. The excavated area will be fenced off, and we ask that you keep a safe distance from any open excavations. The temporary watermain is constructed with potable water materials and will be tested in accordance with the Ministry of Environment’s regulations. Your water will remain safe to drink.

Please do not use string trimmers or lawn mowers near the temporary watermain.

We understand this is an inconvenience and can be unsightly, but it is necessary to protect the integrity of the water supply.

There will be instances where the Contractor will have to shut-down the watermain for a period of hours. The Contractor shall notify the homeowners within 24 hours of such instances.

7.  Garbage & Blue Box Collection: If required, the Contractor will collect all garbage and blue boxes on collection days and transport it to the end of the street for collection. Please have your garbage and blue boxes ready for collection at your curb line by 7am on the day of collection. Please clearly label your bins with your house number so the Contractor can return the bin to your home.

8.  Private Services: Please mark-out, or, communicate with the Town, any private servicing (eg: private hydro services, private irrigation systems) so that the Contractor can avoid them during construction. The Town and the Contractor are not responsible for the repair of any private services that are un-marked or unknown.

9.  Cogeco & Bell Canada: The Contractor takes every precaution to protect Cogeco and Bell Canada services, which provide phone and internet service to the area. Unfortunately, many of these services are not correctly located and therefore, susceptible to being damaged by excavation equipment. In our experience, it is always best for the homeowner to call the provider. Be assertive, many times the customer service agent has never had to deal with this before. In the event the provider refuses to help, contact the Contractor on site. Your cooperation and patience are greatly appreciated.

10. Special Needs: Please contact us as soon as possible with any special needs so that they can be accommodated accordingly.
