Natural Gas Leak - May 13, 2024

Wyoming, ON – The all-clear has been given after a natural gas leak occurred earlier today in the Wyoming area.   Shortly before 11:30 a.m. construction near the intersection of Broadway Street and Confederation Line resulted in the rupture of a natural gas main.  Emergency Services responded to the scene and a Shelter-In-Place order was placed in a 500m radius around the site of the leak.

Town of Plympton-Wyoming public works staff, volunteer firefighters, Lambton OPP, and Enbridge Gas worked together to control the situation.  Personnel went door to door to alert residents in the immediate area and roadblocks were established to keep people out of the danger area.

Around 2:20 p.m. this afternoon Enbridge crews were able to isolate and close the breach in the main line.  Shortly after, OPP and Public Works crews were able to begin reopening roads.  Emergency personnel also went door to door to alert local residents of the immediate area of the leak.

Mayor Gary Atkinson says “Staff, community volunteers and partners deserve a huge round of thanks for all their efforts to ensure the safety of local residents.”

Enbridge crews continue to work at the site.  Construction at the intersection began earlier this month. Mayor Atkinson thanks the public for their patience and understanding during today’s incident.
